Fun on Wheels

Brenda is anxious to ride her new scooter with her friend Melody. When Melody arrives wearing her safety gear, Brenda is a little confused. Melody explains the importance of being safe when riding any type of recreational wheels. They discuss wearing the right equipment, checking their wheels and following the rules for riding. Talk the Walk

While Brenda is waiting at the park for Melody, she sees people breaking pedestrian safety rules and gets upset. She explains to Melody that she has been learning safety rules for walking and crossing the street in order to be a safety patrol officer at school. Together, they review the rules for Brenda's safety test. (Brenda, Melody)

"Bus"ted Rules

When Melody questions Brenda about her book on buses, Brenda explains that she is working on a project to help the younger kids prepare to ride a bus for their field trip. Through role-play, Brenda helps Melody understand the safety rules for waiting for, boarding, riding and exiting a bus. (Brenda, Melody)

Road Skills

Brenda and Melody are both excited about their road trip to Melody's aunt's house. While waiting to leave, the girls discuss automobile safety including seat belts, safe toys and driver distractions. Together, they realize the importance of being "safe" passengers. (Brenda, Melody)

Uncle Zack (grades 3 -6)

When Brenda arrives at Melody's house, she is upset. Brenda explains that her Uncle Zack was supposed to drive her to Melody's after they spent the day together, but he couldn't because he had been drinking alcohol. Brenda tells Melody what she decided to do in order to stay safe. (Brenda, Melody)


NOTE: After each script, the puppet characters review the information presented during the scripted interchange with the children in the audience.

The Kids on the Block, created in 1977, features life size puppets who, through the magic of live puppet theatre, teach children and adults about disabilities, medical and educational differences, and social concerns.
