THE KIDS ON THE BLOCK PROGRAM ON

VEHICLE SAFETY

Featuring: Brenda Dubrowski and Melody James

The main rule for vehicle safety is to be smart, and both Brenda Dubrowski and Melody James show how smart they are by teaching the audience and each other how to prevent injuries and make smart decisions. Brenda knows the safety rules for walking and crossing the street and for riding on a bus after learning to be a safety patrol officer at her school. She tells her friends that there are lots of safety rules, and it's important for everyone to learn them. Melody shares her knowledge of safety rules for riding on recreational wheels and for being a safe passenger in a car. She says, "There are some safety rules we need to follow for fun on ANY wheels." Brenda also shares how she was able to get out of a situation where a grown-up, who was supposed to drive her to Melody's house, was drinking alcohol.

Safety on the Go, The Kids on the Block Program on Vehicle Safety is designed to familiarize children with pedestrian safety, school bus safety, automobile safety and the safety rules for riding recreational wheels, like bicycles, scooters, skateboards or inline skates. The curriculum was developed to encourage decision-making skills that would help prevent childhood injury and to promote healthy routines as part of a healthy lifestyle.

The complete curriculum consists of large hand-crafted puppets, five scripts, props, follow-up activities and resources to teach children about vehicle and pedestrian safety.
