THE COLLECTION
The Kids on the Block Transition Collection is designed to offer a variety of options to enhance presentations made by associate troupes. Selections from The Kids on the Block Transition Collection can be performed in a variety of settings in conjunction with other KOB programming. The transitions are intended to educate children in grades K-6 about various positive behaviors, habits and life skills. | The transitions package includes your choice of one of the eight Life Lessons Kids. Unlike other Kids on the Block characters, the Life Lessons Kids do not have distinct biographies. They are designed to be interchangeable with one another in the context of this transition collection. The Life Lessons Kids are all twelve year old seventh graders at Woodburn Junior High (or Middle) School. They are all positive, upbeat and eager to learn and share knowledge with others. You may also use your Life Lessons Kid to perform Kids on the Block songs during your presentations. |
| This collection contains eight sets of mini-scripts which educate about positive behaviors, habits and life skills. Each transition involves three scenes meant to be inserted between regular KOB script material. |
| PRACTICING
GOOD MANNERS - When the Life
Lessons Cat (included with the collection) wrecks the Kid's project and flees the
room. The Kid decides
to teach the Cat good manners
to help it learn to show respect and consideration for others. (K
- 6th) |
| MAKING
NEW FRIENDS - The Kid
has recently moved into the neighborhood and wants to make friends with
neighborhood children but isn’t sure how to do it. The
neighborhood children also want to meet the new kid but are equally
unsure how to approach him/her. Through role- plays, each finds
their own comfort level and ways to make a new friend. (K - 6th) |
| GOOD
LISTENING SKILLS - The Kid
has decided to offer a problem solving service, but some of the advice
doesn’t work out quite right. With the help of Poor Woodburn’s Almanac: A
Collection of Ancient Proverbs, he/she learns what good
listening skills are and how they can really be used to help a friend. (3rd
- 6th) |
| CARING
FOR ANIMALS - The Kid
volunteers at the local animal shelter for a community service
project. When some animals are not adopted from the Pet Adoption
Booth, he/she tries to take in many, many animals. With help from
a friend, the Kid learns
about animals’ basic needs, including attention and kind
treatment. Later, armed with an understanding of the care animals
need, he/she makes plans to take in one pet and finds an appropriate
way to help other animals in need. (K - 6th) |
| HAND
WASHING - When the Life
Lessons Cat gets a cold, the
Kid offers to teach Life
Lessons Cat how to prevent the spread of some
sicknesses, like colds. Since hand washing is different for cats
and humans, the Kid explains
the steps necessary for thorough hand washing. (K - 3rd) |
| DOING
YOUR BEST - Frustrated by yet another bad grade, the Kid decides to adopt the
teacher’s suggestions for good homework habits. He/she finds that
these habits really do work and learns how good it feels to do his/her
best. (3rd- 6th) |
| CARING
FOR THE ENVIRONMENT - The
Kid encounters a piece of litter on the way home from
school. This prompts him/her to share his/her family’s practices
for caring for the environment, like recycling and conserving energy. (3rd
- 6th) |
| FOLLOWING RULES - The Kid is on restriction for breaking a rule. At first, he/she rails against rules, but with the help of a friend, the Kid and the audience come to understand the importance and necessity of rules in general. (3rd - 6th) |
