Featuring: Brenda Dubrowski, Kenny Montgomery, Virgil the Dog, Abbie Lynch, Keith Montgomery
When KENNY MONTGOMERY, an eleven year old boy who loves computer games and playing baseball, is diagnosed as terminally ill with a brain tumor, Kenny's parents, doctors, and Kenny himself decide a home hospice program is the best plan for Kenny. Abbie, a trained pediatric hospice nurse, becomes an important member of the Montgomery family as she helps Kenny lead a "regular" life filled with friends and family.
The Kids on the Block PEDIATRIC HOSPICE program features Kenny, his hospice nurse ABBIE LYNCH, his brother KEITH MONTGOMERY, and his classmate BRENDA DUBROWSKI -- and, of course, Kenny's beloved dog, Virgil! The four puppet characters interact in four scripts to demonstrate to audiences of all ages the strengths of home hospice care, how and why a home hospice program operates, and how a child, the child's family and friends can learn to deal positively with terminal illness, death and bereavement.
Developed in conjunction with the United States Office of Maternal
and Child Health and the Children's Hospice International, The Kids on
the Block PEDIATRIC HOSPICE curriculum consists of large hand-crafted
puppets, four scripts, props, follow-up activities, and resources.
