When Jimmy must combine his resource room placement for his
emotional disorder with daily
experience in a regular classroom, both his teachers and his classmates
must learn to deal with
Jimmy's erratic and sometimes aggressive behavior. Originally developed in
conjunction with the
George Mason University Department of Special Education in Virginia, the
package consists of large hand-
crafted puppets, four scripts, props, and follow-up activities and
resources to form a
comprehensive curriculum on the topic. The program features puppet
character JIMMY
RANDOLPH, a 12-year-old boy who demonstrates the more volatile and
acting-out behavior of a child with
an emotional and/or behavioral disorder. Script material covers specific issues
such as the systematic use
of contracts and rewards, the use of individual therapy and family
counseling as appropriate
strategies for Jimmy, praise and positive reinforcement from his peers,
and challenges surrounding friendship and peer acceptance.
