The
Kids on the Block Program on Cerebral Palsy was developed to promote
sensitivity and acceptance of children who have physical differences and/or
use wheelchairs. The curriculum is an educational tool designed to:
-
familiarize children with cerebral
palsy
-
nurture children's curiosity
by encouraging them to talk with other children who may be different from
them
-
teach children that people with
disabilities are more like them than different
-
educate children about the importance
of words and how they can make a person feel good or bad about her/himself
-
teach children that having a
disability does not mean "can't do," but rather "can do differently"
