SEVERE BURN SURVIVOR

Script Summaries

Monster Mask and Spiderman Suit

Melody is incredulous when she sees Lynne for the first time since Lynne was severely burned in a house fire. Lynne convinces Melody that it is OK to look at her burns. They talk openly and honestly about the pressure garment and mask Lynne must wear and how Lynne handles teasing from other kids. (Lynne, Melody) (Lynne, Melody)

I Feel Pretty

When Lynne tells Melody that she plans to sing "I Feel Pretty" in the school talent show, Melody is concerned that since her face was severely burned, Lynne is not pretty enough to perform the song. Lynne and Melody look at a photograph of Lynne taken before the fire, and Lynne talks frankly with her friend about plastic surgery and society's attitude toward appearance and beauty. (Lynne, Melody)

Roller Rehab

Melody spends the night at Lynne's house. When Lynne removes her pressure suit for washing, Melody sees all of her burned skin for the first time. Lynne shows Melody the burns on her leg, arms, and hands. Mel is surprised to learn that the burn scars do not hurt, nor are they infected. She touches the scars and feels more comfortable. Later when Mel prepares a "rehab" game for Lynne, she concocts an ingenious way for Lynne to practice gripping with her burned hands. (Lynne, Melody)
