Featuring: Lynne Casey and Melody James
It's OK for you to look," Lynne says to her friend, Melody. "It's OK for you to notice that I've been burned." This educational program was designed to introduce children and adults to the issues surrounding a person who has been severely burned and has significant facial scarring. The package consists of large hand-crafted puppets, three scripts, props, follow-up activities and resources, to form a comprehensive curriculum on the topic. In addition to the sponsors of the program, advice on this sensitive topic was gathered from burn survivors themselves, both children and adults, and professionals who specialize in the physical and emotional needs of the person who has been burned. Script material includes specific issues such as the use of pressure garments and masks, physical therapy, plastic surgery, and re-entry into school and society.
The Kids on the Block Program on Severe Burns was developed
in conjunction with St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and The
Burn Foundation of Philadelphia.
