Volunteer Puppeteers

Being a KOB puppeteer is a rewarding and exciting experience, but it also involves considerable commitment, especially in the beginning.  As a volunteer starts to learn puppetry, a number of hours will be dedicated to memorization, learning puppetry skills and rehearsing for that initial performance.  Committed and reliable volunteers are necessary for the success of your KOB troupe.

The following is an outline of the job description for a Kids on the Block puppeteer.  Actual duties and responsibilities may vary from one organization to another.


General Function:    Serve as a puppeteer for the host organization's Kids on the Block program.  Includes memorization of scripts, rehearsal, learning about program topics, puppetry performances and public relations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 
    ●    Attend training workshop(s)
     
    ●    Read all material and memorize the necessary scripts
     
    ●    Become familiar with program topic information

    ●    Practice lines and manipulate puppets as necessary
     
    ●    Attend rehearsals  
     
    ●    Perform at schools and for community groups as scheduled
     
    ●    Arrive at least one hour before each performance to help set up equipment  
     
    ●    Give credit before or after each performance to The Kids on the Block, Inc. 
     
    ●    Perform follow-up activities or see that the teachers have the materials necessary to do so
 
Qualifications:

    ●    High motivational level and commitment
     
    ●    Ability to work as a team member
     
    ●    Ability to memorize scripts
     
    ●    Desire to learn about program topic
