Charles David Marshall

Charles David Marshall goes to school at Woodburn High School, works part time at a Greek restaurant and has a 6 month old daughter. Charles David never planned on being a father at the age of 17. "I was in love with my girlfriend, " Charles explains, "at least I thought I was at the time. I never really thought about how easy it was to get a girl pregnant. We never talked about waiting to have sex. We didn't plan for it either... you know, birth control and everything. I figured it was her responsibility to make sure she didn't get pregnant."

Since becoming a father Charles David's life has changed a lot. He used to spend his free time hanging out with his friends or playing basketball. Now, he is trying to help his ex-girlfriend, Sharyn, with the baby. When he is not in school he is busy waiting tables at The Olive Branch, a Greek restaurant owned by the Kontos family. Charles also participates in a support group for teen fathers called, "Dads In Training."

"So much has changed for Sharyn and me," says Charles David, "It's hard on us, on her parents and on my mom, too. If I could go back and change things I sure would wait to be a dad until I was ready for the responsibility."

Charles David appears in The Kids on the Block Program on Sexuality and Teenage Pregnancy.
