ADDRESSING TERRORISM, FAMILY DEPLOYMENT AND HEALING New Program Brings Important Messages to Children Columbia, MD (February 11, 2002) – In October, 2001, The Kids on the Block, Inc. made a new script, "Troubling Times," available to its affiliate educational puppet troupes throughout the U.S. That script addressed the September 11th terrorist attacks and became a catalyst for children to discuss their fears and concerns. "Troubling Times," has become part of a larger program now being offered by the internationally acclaimed educational company. The Kids on the Block Program on Coping With Crisis and Making a Difference features four scripts which address a number of issues. "Wait 'Till the War is Over," focuses in military families experiencing a family member's deployment during wartime. "An All American Girl," features a Muslim character and addresses prejudice and misconceptions. "Helping to Heal" emphasizes how children can make a valuable contribution in their community by helping those in need. Rather than provide overly simplistic solutions, this new Kids on the Block program is designed to help children begin the process of digesting events which can be difficult to comprehend. The Kids on the Block Program on Coping With Crisis and Making a Difference makes the discussion of issues surrounding the War on Terror accessible to children. ###
