THE KIDS ON THE BLOCK TRAVEL TO HONG KONG Columbia, MD (October 5, 1995) – The Kids on the Block, Inc., an award winning, international educational puppet company which uses puppetry to teach children about disabilities, medical differences and social concerns is going to Hong Kong. From October 6, 1995 through October 16, 1995, Educational Consultants, Aric-James Darroe and Diana Degnan will be touring schools as well as training volunteers to perform with the Kids on the Block puppets. The Kids on the Block has been in operation since 1977 and now educates children and adults about 39 different topics. The puppet characters share important information with humor and sensitivity. At the end of each script, children ask questions directly to the puppet characters, allowing for a positive, interactive experience. The Hong Kong trip is being co-sponsored by the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation and the Society for the Relief of Disabled Children. Both organizations will be using The Kids on the Block puppets to educate children in Hong Kong about asthma, diabetes, mental retardation, and what it's like having a sibling with a disability. The Kids on the Block, Inc. has performed for schools, businesses, community groups and hospitals all over the United States and in 28 other countries. The programs are also available as educational curricula to be used in local communities. The Kids on the Block is implemented on the grass roots level by thousands of volunteers who are changing attitudes and making a difference in the lives of children. ###
