MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY EDUCATION PROGRAM LAUNCHES IN CANADA

Richmond, BC (October 23, 1999) –
The newest member of the Kids on the Block puppet troupe, will make his debut appearance at the National Firefighters Advisor's Conference at the Executive Inn in Richmond, British Columbia.

Puppet characters Shane Davis, Carrie Davis, Nam Nguyen and Pete Whetstone are part of The Kids on the Block Program on Muscular Dystrophy.  This new program was designed to educate children about muscular dystrophy in general and Duchenne muscular dystrophy in particular.  Through ten year old Shane, elementary school aged children will learn about how Duchenne muscular dystrophy affects a child, his siblings and friends.  The program also addresses the challenging issue of parental overprotection and encourages children to communicate with their families.

The premiere on October 23 represents the culmination of more than a year’s work of  researching, developing, writing, and field testing the educational puppet program.  The Kids on the Block Program on Muscular Dystrophy was developed in conjunction with the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.
